Learning Disabilities & Be Brilliant Organization

Kyra Jo Webster, BeBrilliantOrganization.org

1 in 5 students face some form of learning disabilities, whether it be ADHD, Dyslexia or Etc. These students continuously work hard to succeed in education in and out of the classroom. When I was in the 2nd grade I was diagnosed with ADHD, ADD, and Dyslexia. Growing up with learning disabilities was a major struggle and caused me to rethink my intelligence and self worth. I was always the kid in class who was just there, I never answered any questions because I was always afraid  my answer would be wrong. Because of this my mental health took a huge hit causing me to lose the love I once had for myself and leaving me with a feeling of stupidity. Over the years I have since accepted the fact that I will always be different because of LD but it doesn’t make me any less intelligent. I created Be Brilliant as a way to educate parents and teachers on what learning disabilities are and how they can help students who have them. This way no student has to feel stupid, but every student can be celebrated and feel brilliant in their own way. Our goal is to change the way we are taught, not the way we learn so that those who may not be as capable as their peers can be just as successful.

Thank you so much Kyra Jo Webster for sharing the connection between learning disabilities and a person’s mental health. You can go check out her platform here!
